House Committee Seeks Cybersecurity Verification to Address Navy’s Afloat Network Funds

The House Armed Services Committee intends to reduce the Navy's at-sea network funds if the secretary of defense does not confirm the service branch's compliance with certain cybersecurity recommendations, Fifth Domain reported Tuesday. The secretary must work with the Department of Defense's chief information officer to prove the compliance of the Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Services with a certain, classified inspector general report.

DoD Inspector General Issues Report on FY 2018 Financial Statement Audit Results

The Department of Defense’s office of inspector general has released a new report to help non-auditors understand the findings of the first departmentwide financial audit in fiscal year 2018. A team of over 1K auditors visited more than 600 DoD sites and evaluated over 90K sample items and found that 13 of the 21 DoD reporting entities received disclaimers of opinion, which means that an auditor fails to obtain sufficient audit evidence on which to base an opinion, according to the report released Tuesday.

Recent DoD IG Audit Reveals Lack of Software Rationalization in Branches

The Department of Defense's inspector general released the audit results to determine how the U.S. NavyU.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Air Force rationalize software and manage obsolete and duplicate applications. The audit found the three service branches did not consistently handle software rationalization. However, the USMC and Navy observed processes to prevent software duplication, the inspector general said Dec. 13th in a report.
