DoD JAIC, NSIN Jointly Host Predictive Maintenance Contest; Jack Shanahan Quoted

The Department of Defense's Joint Artificial Intelligence Center and the National Security Innovation Network have partnered to administer a three-day challenge on predictive aircraft maintenance. DoD Taps Startups for Latest AI Project

The Department of Defense is expanding opportunities for startups to enter the defense contracting market. Rcently, DoD hosted an industry day where nontraditional companies pitched new artificial intelligence tools to support the military, National Defense Magazine reported Tuesday. The National Security Innovation Network within the Pentagon led the event at 10 Hudson Yards in New York City in support of the agency’s Joint Artificial Intelligence Center.

Robert Work on DoD’s Use of AI in Weapons Development

Robert Work, former deputy secretary at the Department of Defense, said DoD is “absolutely unapologetic” about efforts to advance the development of artificial intelligence-based weapons, Nextgov reported Wednesday. “If we’re going to succeed against a competitor like China that’s all in on this competition … we’re going to have to grasp the inevitability of AI,” Work said Wednesday at an AFCEA event.
