Select Committee Offers Recommendations for Using Cloud to Help Advance AI Research

The Select Committee on Artificial Intelligence has issued a report outlining four recommendations for how the federal government can help improve the use of cloud computing resources in support of federally funded research-and-development work on AI. Those recommendations are launching and supporting pilot projects to explore the challenges and advantages related to the use of commercial cloud platforms in conducting AI research.

Lt. Gen. Michael Groen: JAIC’s Joint Common Foundation to Begin Offering Services in 2021

Michael Groen, director of the Department of Defense‘s (DoD) Joint Artificial Intelligence Center (JAIC), said he expects the Joint Common Foundation (JCF) platform to start providing simple services in 2021. Groen said the center is looking to transition from being a product development unit into a service hub for AI as part of the "JAIC 2.0” vision.

JAIC, Deloitte Work on Cloud-Based AI Development Space; Nand Mulchandani Quoted

The Department of Defense’s (DoD) Joint Artificial Intelligence Center is working with Deloitte to develop a prototype of a cloud platform that could enable developers to create uses for AI under an $80 million contract awarded in August 2020. Mulchandani said the JCF will accommodate open-source platforms and other development tools.
