Louisiana Nat’l Guard Responds to Gov’t Cyber Attacks Ahead of 2020 Elections


The National Guard has responded to alleged cases of cyber breaches at government offices in Louisiana weeks ahead of this year’s presidential elections. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) issued an advisory on a new form of malware called "emotet” which has worm-like qualities. Cybersecurity experts have attributed the cyber attacks in Louisiana to a hacking group backed by North Korea.

Report: States Need More Federal Funds to Back Election Security Initiatives

A new report released by the New York University School of Law’s Brennan Center for Justice says states will need additional federal funding to protect state and local election systems from cyber threats posed by nation-state actors ahead of the 2020 election. According to the document, Congress allocated $380M in grant funds through the Help America Vote Act in 2018 to help states improve their election security.
