The Government Accountability Office (GAO) has listed several practices the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) could implement to address acquisition challenges with regard to the Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) system. Those key practices include using knowledge-based acquisition practices; involving stakeholders early and often; promoting oversight and competition; and conducting robust testing. 

Lockheed Martin has partnered with Aerojet Rocketdyne on a proposal to compete for the Next Generation Interceptor (NGI) contract for The Missile Defense Agency (MDA). Lockheed Martin has offered an interceptor that will address all elements of environmental survivability. Aerojet Rocketdyne will power Lockheed Martin’s primary propulsion to address all U.S. Northern Command challenges.

The U.S. Army and Missile Defense Agency (MDA) have concluded testing of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) and Patriot weapon systems as part of an interoperability exercise that began early this year. The FTP-27 assessment took place at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico and saw the THAAD Army-Navy/Transportable Radar Surveillance target data to the Patriot system.

The Missile Defense Agency expects Lockheed Martin to fully deliver the Long Range Discrimination Radar this year, with the achievement of recent milestones. The program already reached delivery milestones for the radar's first 10 antenna panels, Lockheed said Tuesday. The delivered panels make up half of the radar's antenna arrays. Each array measures 27 feet in height.
