Commercial Drone Alliance Seeks ‘Regulatory Certainty’ for Large UAS Operations

The Commercial Drone Alliance is calling on the U.S. chief technology officer and the Federal Aviation Adinistration to “provide regulatory certainty” for operating large unmanned aerial systems. The industry group wrote to USCTO and 2019 Wash100 Award winner Michael Kratsios as well as FAA Administrator Stephen Dickinson and Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao seeking a "clear regulatory roadmap” for drones that weigh more than 55 pounds.

White House Issues Update to 2016 National Artificial Intelligence R&D Strategic Plan

The White House’s National Science and Technology Council released an update to the 2016 strategic plan for artificial intelligence research and development in support of the American AI Initiative that was launched through an executive order in February. The National AI R&D Strategic Plan: 2019 Update retains the first seven priorities in the 2016 plan and adds a new strategy to expand public-private partnerships to accelerate advances in AI.

White House Seeks Industry Expertise to Advance AI Sector

Top White House technology officials called on federal agencies to work with industry to implement the Trump administration’s artificial intelligence strategy, NextGov reported Thursday. President Trump signed the American AI Initiative in February to accelerate government efforts to build new AI tools. However, White House officials said most agencies lack the experts who could determine the most promising research or update policies to promote responsible innovation.

Report: White House Plan on Artificial Intelligence, 5G Could be Ready Within Weeks

The White House is expected within the coming weeks to introduce an action plan on 5G technology, artificial intelligence and the National Quantum Initiative Act’s "first deliverables,” The Hill reported Wednesday.
