Gen. Mike Holmes: U.S. Air Force Eyes Trainer Jet Competition for ‘Reforge’ Concept

Gen. Mike Holmes, head of Air Combat Command, said the U.S. Air Force plans to hold a competition for trainer jets for use in testing the “Rebuilding the Forge” training concept. The Reforge training concept seeks to expedite the process of developing experienced fighter pilots. Holmes said the service intends to allow other companies to offer alternative options.

Air Combat Command Intending to Integrate Cyber, ISR Ops Through 24th, 25th Air Forces Merger

Air Combat Command will combine this summer its 24th and 25th air forces to integrate cyber, electronic warfare, information operations and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance activities at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in Texas, the Air Force reported Thursday. “The merger of 24th and 25th is the next step in leveraging and integrating new ideas and technologies to both improve the quality and speed of decision-making and deliver improved effects for commanders,” said Gen. Gen. Mike Holmes: Air Force Eyes T-X Trainer as Adversary, Light-Attack Aircraft

Gen. Mike Holmes, head of Air Combat Command, said the U.S. Air Force is considering if the T-X trainer aircraft can be acquired to meet the service's other requirements like performing light-attack missions or serving as an “aggressor” plane, Defense News reported Thursday. “You could imagine a version of the airframe that could be equipped as a light fighter. You can imagine a version that is equipped as an adversary air-training platform,” Holmes told reporters at the Air Force Association’s Air Warfare Symposium Thursday.

Mike Holmes: Boeing’s Fourth-Gen F-15X Could Help USAF Reduce Procurement Costs

Gen. Mike Holmes, commander of the Air Combat Command, said at an Air Force Association event in Florida that the service would reduce costs by acquiring fourth-generation aircraft like Boeing’s F-15X, National Defense reported Friday. Holmes noted that purchasing a mix of fourth- and fifth-generation aircraft would help the Air Force cut costs and reach its goal of procuring 72 new fighter jets annually.
