Russia Fields Hypersonic Weapon ‘Avangard’

Russia’s defense ministry said the country has fielded its first hypersonic nuclear-capable missiles, Reuters reported Saturday. Sergei Shoigu, Russia’s defense minister, informed President Vladimir Putin of the deployment of the Avangard system, which has a hypersonic glide vehicle sitting on top of an intercontinental ballistic missile.

USMC Tests Radar Systems With New Raytheon-Made Tech

The U.S. Marine Corps demonstrated integrated operation between its radar systems and technology based on an Israeli air defense platform in August, Marine Corps Times reported Thursday. The Ground/Air Task-Oriented Radar or G/ATOR performed alongside SkyHunter, a Raytheon-made air defense system based on Israel's Iron Dome technology.

Gen. Terrence O'Shaughnessy, commander at the North American Aerospace Defense and Nothern Commands, said the U.S. government must maintain vigilance with increased activities in the Arctic region. O'Shaughnessy noted that Northcom and NORAD should prioritize the development of a framework to utilize an array of sensor systems to reinforce domain awareness, the Department of Defense said Tuesday.
