Pentagon Report Uncovers Risks in Defense Industrial Base

A Department of Defense report says the number of weapons and ammunition suppliers has dropped despite DoD’s increased spending on such equipment since 2016, Defense News reported Thursday. “Even in the defense services market, which is traditionally considered to have lower barriers to entry, supplier counts are shrinking,” according to DoD’s Industrial Capabilities report released in May.

Patrick Shanahan: Pentagon to Advance Efforts in Missiles, Cyber, Space Areas in 2019

Deputy Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan has said the Pentagon plans to focus its 2019 national strategy on cyber, missiles and space areas in order to maintain the country’s military advantage. Shanahan wrote in a Defense News article published Monday that the Department of Defense will leverage developments in missile defense systems, hypersonics and long-range precision fires in 2019 to protect U.S. and international assets from adversary missiles.

US Air Force Conducts Minuteman ICBM Launch Test

U.S. Air Force Global Strike Command test-fired an LGM-30 Minuteman III missile on Nov. 6, Noozhawk reported Wednesday. The intercontinental ballistic missile, which was armed with a mock warhead, was launched from an underground silo at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. An AFGSC spokesman said the test was "reliable."
