Department of Homeland Security's Science and Technology (DHS S&T) Directorate is using research experiences from previous disease outbreaks to inform COVID-19 response. S&T tackles COVID-19 with lessons learned from the Ebola virus, anthrax bacteria and other issues that have caused disease outbreaks. HAC-TC also supports DHS laboratories including the National Biodefense Analysis and Countermeasures Center.

The Department of Homeland Security's science and technology directorate has cited how its network of laboratories support DHS in carrying out operations. “Our in-house labs offer technical support, infrastructure and core capabilities that produce hard science to support the mission,” said Julie Brewer, director of S&T’s Office of National Laboratories (ONL).

DHS S&T Supports Coronavirus Research

The Department of Homeland Security's Science and Technology Directorate has launched a study to prevent further spread of the COVID-19 disease' coronavirus. DHS said Wednesday its Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Office is working with the National Biodefense Analysis and Countermeasures Center to help scientists learn more about the virus. Results may support first responders and medical personnel dealing with the issue.
