House Panel Proposes $690B in Defense Discretionary Spending for FY 2020

The House Appropriations Committee introduced a draft spending bill that would authorize $690.2 billion in fiscal 2020 discretionary funds for the Department of Defense, reflecting an increase of $15.8 billion from the enacted discretionary budget for the current fiscal year. The committee said Tuesday the bill includes a base budget of $622.1 billion and $68.1 billion in overseas contingency operations funds – an increase of $15.6 billion and $165 million from current levels, respectively.

Army Corps of Engineers Unveils FY 2019 Work Plan for Civil Works Program

James Mattis: DoD Sets 80% Mission Capability Rate for Air Force, Navy Fighter Jets

Defense Secretary James Mattis has issued a memo that calls for the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy to achieve a minimum mission capability rate of 80 percent for four fighter aircraft by the end of fiscal 2019, Defense News reported Tuesday. Mattis asked the service branches to reduce the operating and maintenance costs of F-35, F-22, F-16 and F-18 fighter jets starting in fiscal 2019, according to the memo obtained by the publication.
