GAO: CBP Improvement Plan Lacks Some Important Details

The Government Accountability Office has assessed the Customs and Border Protection's efforts to plan personnel, fencing and technology programs in support of the larger border security mission. GAO Comments on USACE, GSA Contract Change Processing

The Government Accountability Office conducted an inspection on the construction projects of the Army Corps of Engineers and the General Services Administration. GAO said Tuesday that it found both agencies do not regularly track the time length of processing contract changes. This reduces USACE's and GSA's capacities to identify and address issues, according to GAO.

GAO Looks at DoD Inspector General Redundancy

The Government Accountability Office has reviewed the redundancy of activities, including human resources and public affairs, across six inspector general offices within the Department of Defense, GAO said Friday. GAO is working to determine whether IG offices of the Department of the Navy, U.S. Southern Command, Defense Logistics Agency, Defense Contract Management Agency and Defense Media Activity had cases of fragmentation, overlap or duplication.

VA Inspector General Office Audits IT Contract Vehicle; Recommends Strengthened Policy

The Department of Veterans Affairs' Office of the Inspector General released results of an audit on VA's information technology procurement vehicle. VA OIG said Thursday that it sought to verify the department's compliance with federal regulations in managing the Transformation Twenty-One Total Technology Next Generation or T4NG contract. In addition, the audit worked to determine whether VA's Technology Acquisition Center helped contractors meet requirements and awarded orders with respect to policy.

The Nuclear Regulation Commission's Office of the Inspector General has released results of an audit on the agency's cybersecurity operations. NRC OIG said Tuesday that it found the agency generally provides assurance on the cybersecurity of nuclear power plant licensees across digital assets.

DOJ OIG: FBI Needs to Fix Cybercrime Data, Victim Notification Process

The Department of Justice’s Office of the Inspector General released a redacted report stating that the FBI needs to improve its process for handling cybercrime reports and notifying victims of cyber intrusions. The IG noted that data in the FBI’s Cyber Guardian system, designed for disseminating notifications to cyber victims to help mitigate further attacks, was “incomplete and unreliable, making the FBI unable to determine whether all victims are being notified.”

DHS Struggles with Information Sharing on Research Project, GAO Report Finds

The Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate is failing to properly collect, integrate and share information on research and development performance across the agency, according to a government report. The Government Accountability Office released a report on Thursday highlighting the challenges associated with coordination of research and development information that make it difficult for DHS to monitor progress of projects and understand the customer  experience.
