DHS CISO Paul Beckman Advises Use of Multifactor Authentication

Paul Beckman, chief information security officer at the Department of Homeland Security, said agencies must adopt multifactor authentication to prevent unauthorized access, Cyberscoop reported Tuesday. Beckman said at the Zero Trust Security Summit that he uses a second factor as an additional layer of security for email account logins. Second factor examples include authentication text messages.

DHS, FFA Launch Efforts to Remove Inefficient Network Security Tools

Larry Grossman, acting chief information security officer of the Federal Aviation Administration, has said that the agency intends to reduce the amount of security tools present in their networks, Fifth Domain reported Tuesday. During a recent Northern Virginia Technology Council event, Grossman told attendees that his team intends to remove two products for every network security tool the FAA acquires.

DHS Looking to Copy DoD Cyber Strategy to Secure Agencies

The Department of Homeland Security is replicating a strategy used by the Department of Defense to help agencies improve cybersecurity and protect networks, CyberScoop reported Monday. Paul Beckman, chief information security officer at DHS, said the agency is exploring DoD’s Cybersecurity Service Provider model, which is guiding the Pentagon to identify internal security centers to support cybersecurity operations of agencies.
