The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency on Tuesday issued an alert about a ransomware attack on information and operational technology networks of a natural gas compression facility. 

Cyber terrorists used a certain type of ransomware to hack networks linked to a U.S. Coast Guard transport facility, Cyberscoop reported Monday. The Ryuk ransomware disrupted the marine transport facility's information technology network and caused distortions across industrial control systems, the report noted.

Christopher Krebs, director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency and 2019 Wash100 Award winner, detailed ways of mitigating risks of ransomware attacks to members of the Senate’s cybersecurity caucus, Fifth Domain reported Wednesday.

Anne Neuberger, who directs the National Security Agency's new Cybersecurity Directorate, spoke about the upcoming elections' vulnerability to ransomware attacks, The Hill reported Wednesday. The newly formed directorate will focus efforts on ransomware in general, Neuberger said at Billington CyberSecurity's 10th annual summit that takes place from Wednesday to Thursday. NSA will formally launch the new directorate this October.

The National Guard is working with Louisiana and Texas authorities to conduct assessments following ransomware attacks to the states’ information technology systems in the commercial, financial and educational sectors, FCW reported Wednesday. 

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency released new guidelines to help organizations better protect their systems against ransomware attacks.

The National Association of State Chief Information Officers joined the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency and other organizations to recommend on network security against ransomware. NASCIO, CISA, the National Governors Association and the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center advise federal, state and local government agencies consider three ransomware mitigation and prevention practices, NASCIO said Monday.
