The Federal Aviaton Administration hopes to complete a reorganization effort for its Office of Commercial Space Transportation as the unit continues to expand its workforce, Space News reported Monday. The White House sent a bill to Congress to authorize the transition of the Office of Personnel Management to the General Services Administration, Government Executive reported Thursday. Margaret Weichert, acting director of the Office of Personnel Management, said the White House is introducing a measure to authorize the move of OPM to the General Services Administration on Friday, FCW reported Tuesday. OPM will run as a third service division within GSA under the proposed reorganization, which comes as OPM faces a budget deficit of $70 million as a result of the National Background Investigations Bureau’s transfer to the Pentagon as well as issues concerning legacy information technology systems.Read More »
Acting Defense Secretary and 2019 Wash100 Award recipient Patrick Shanahan said the Department of Defense’s objective is to accelerate the “margin of dominance” in space to protect the country’s $19 trillion economy and military systems, the DoD website reported Wednesday. Shanahan said Wednesday at the Center for Strategic and International Studies that DoD’s reorganization efforts to recognize space as a warfighting domain supports the goal and involves the creation of a new Space Force within the Department of the Air Force, development of a new Space Command and formation of a new Space Development Agency.
