White House Introduces Legislative Proposal to Reorganize OPM Into GSA

The White House sent a bill to Congress to authorize the transition of the Office of Personnel Management to the General Services Administration, Government Executive reported Thursday. Russell Vought, acting director of the Office of Management and Budget, wrote a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-California) saying the proposal seeks to move OPM’s functions and resources to GSA, including information technology, human resources, health and insurance services.

Margaret Weichert: White House to Propose Legislation to Transition OPM to GSA

Margaret Weichert, acting director of the Office of Personnel Management, said the White House is introducing a measure to authorize the move of OPM to the General Services Administration on Friday, FCW reported Tuesday. OPM will run as a third service division within GSA under the proposed reorganization, which comes as OPM faces a budget deficit of $70 million as a result of the National Background Investigations Bureau’s transfer to the Pentagon as well as issues concerning legacy information technology systems.

Patrick Shanahan: DoD Seeks to Grow ‘Margin of Dominance’ in Space

Acting Defense Secretary and 2019 Wash100 Award recipient Patrick Shanahan said the Department of Defense’s objective is to accelerate the “margin of dominance” in space to protect the country’s $19 trillion economy and military systems, the DoD website reported Wednesday. Shanahan said Wednesday at the Center for Strategic and International Studies that DoD’s reorganization efforts to recognize space as a warfighting domain supports the goal and involves the creation of a new Space Force within the Department of the Air Force, development of a new Space Command and formation of a new Space Development Agency.

Interior Department to Implement New ‘Unified Regions’ in Reorganization Effort

Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke announced on Wednesday his plan to create 12 new unified regions as part of the Interior Department’s efforts to reorganize its structure and simplify operations, Federal News Radio reported. The DOI's current bureaus organize the country into multiple, sometimes overlapping, administrative regions. Under Zinke's reorganization, all bureaus, with the exception of the three involving American Indian affairs, will have the same 12 regional subdivisions.
