GAO Reports on VH-92A Initiative Progress

The General Accountability Office published a report highlighting the development progress of a U.S. Navy initiative to replace its presidential helicopter fleet with the Sikorsky VH-92A aircraft. The VH-92A acquisition program decreased its developmental costs by four percent since its conception in April 2014 due to some changes in design, stable requirements and program efficiency, GAO said Thursday.

Air Force Recommends Faster Acquisition Process in Fiscal 2018 Report

The U.S. Air Force found that the branch needs to accelerate its procurement process through its fiscal year 2018 annual acquisition report. Heather Wilson, secretary of the Air Force and 2019 Wash100 Award winner, said in statement published Tuesday that the military service needs to remain competitive and avoid the usage of procurement processes from the Cold War era.

FBI Announces Plans for New Office in St. Louis

The federal government plans to construct a new FBI field office at the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency campus in St. Louis, according to a St. Louis Business Journal report Thursday. The planned 40.4K-square foot facility is intended to accommodate information technology equipment and FBI cyber mission servers and unify all field offices across St. Louis.

Consumer Protection Bureau Failing to Monitor Risks in Financial Sector

The Government Accountability Office found that the agency responsible for consumer protection in the financial sector has failed to implement a systematic process for prioritizing financial risks. The lack of an agency-wide process at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau may allow companies that offer financial products and services, such as credit cards and loans, to engage in practices that pose financial risks to consumers, GAO said in a Dec. 21 report

Report Highlights DoD’s Need to Assess Depot Workforce Programs

The Government Accountability Office has called on the armed forces to assess hiring, training and retention programs at their depots to address the emerging challenges keeping skilled workers for future maintenance works. In a report published in mid-December, GAO found that current shortages in skilled personnel and the aging workforce at military depots have delayed maintenance for aircraft, ships and other weapon systems.
