Senate Panel OKs Funding for Pentagon’s Space-Based Sensor Layer

The Senate Armed Services Committee has approved a budget for the Pentagon's proposed space-based sensor layer to detect and track high-speed threats from Earth’s orbit, C4ISRNet reported Thursday. Funding for the project was added to the panel’s version of the $750 billion National Defense Authorization Act for 2020, which now heads to the full Senate for confirmation.

MDA Considering Interceptor Missiles for Hypersonic Defense

Samuel Greaves, director of the Missile Defense Agency, said the MDA is considering acquiring interceptors, National Defense reported Friday. Greaves noted that the agency is conducting assessments of available interceptor missiles after completing an analysis of potential capabilities for hypersonic defense.

President Donald Trump and the Department of Defense plan to release on Thursday a document that lays out the administration’s missile defense strategy, The Washington Post reported Wednesday. The Missile Defense Review comes as Russia, China, Iran and North Korea pursue development work on ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and hypersonic glide vehicles that could pose a threat to U.S. forces and allies in Asia and Europe.
