Federal agencies are initiating measures to address the potential risk posed by unmanned aircraft systems to national security and public safety amid an increasing number of drones flying near airports and other critical infrastructure. “Remote identification will help law enforcement determine if a drone poses an actual threat that needs to be mitigated,” a spokeswoman for FAA said in a statement.

Sean Gainey, director of the U.S. Army’s Joint Counter-Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems Office (JCO), said the service’s Rapid Capabilities and Critical Technologies Office and the U.S. Air Force will host a demonstration of counter-sUAS platforms in April at Yuma Proving Ground in Arizona and JCO will downselect a low-collateral effects interceptor that could be purchased by all services through a contract.

Maj. Gen. Sean Gainey, director of the Joint Counter-Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems Office, (JCO) said the U.S. Army will conduct the first government-industry testing event for counter-sUAS technologies in April. The service's Rapid Capabilities and Critical Technologies Office will host the testing alongside the U.S. Air Force, Gainey said Friday at a virtual event held by the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
