Senate OKs $2.7T Budget Deal With Defense Spending Increase Over Two Years

The Senate voted 67-28 to pass a two-year budget deal to increase defense spending by approximately $45B, Defense News reported Thursday. The $2.7T deal would raise defense funding from spending levels of $716B to $738B in 2020 to $740B in 2021. It also includes an agreement to exclude “poison pill” riders that limit the administration’s ability to direct funds toward the border wall project.

Former Delta Air Senior VP Stephen Dickson Senate-Confirmed to Lead FAA

The Senate has confirmed Stephen Dickson, a former senior vice president of flight operations at Delta Air Lines, as administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration following a 52 to 40 vote, Reuters reported Thursday. Dickson will succeed Dan Elwell, who served as the FAA's acting administrator since 2018.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi: House Should Pass Deal on Government Spending, Debt Limit Before Recess

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said she hopes the lower chamber can pass a deal to raise the debt ceiling and set spending levels by July 26, CNBC reported Wednesday. Pelosi said she expects the White House and the chamber to agree on a measure by Friday, July 19 to allow lawmakers to work on the legislative text over the weekend.

OPM Experiences Data Center Outage as Administration Pursues GSA Merger

The Office of Personnel Management experienced a disruption to its information technology systems due to a data center outage at OPM’s headquarters last week, Federal News Network reported Tuesday. “Significant OPM programs and missions were impacted for multiple hours last week during an incident that impacted OPM information technology,” Stephen Billy, deputy chief of staff at OPM, told the publication.

Senate to Develop NASA Human Spaceflight Bill

Sens. Ted Cruz, Roger Wicker, Krysten Sinema and Maria Cantwell have collaborated to create a bill to help NASA direct its human spaceflight activities, SpaceNews reported Friday. The unnamed legislation follows a filed Mars exploration bill in 2017 and will support commercial space initiatives for manned Moon missions by 2024.
