NASA to Stow OSIRIS-REx Asteroid Samples Ahead of Schedule

NASA is preparing to transport and stow a large collection of surface samples from the Bennu asteroid to a sample return capsule. The space agency said that it wants to move the samples ahead of schedule to avoid further spilling out from the OSIRIS-REx spacecraft. The OSIRIS-REx team will transmit preliminary commands to the spacecraft.

NASA has gathered more than the required amount of rock samples for a mission to study the Bennu asteroid. The space agency said Saturday it collected over 60 grams of Bennu's surface material under the OSIRIS-REx mission. The OSIRIS-REx spacecraft's Touch-And-Go Sample Acquisition Mechanism (TAGSAM) collected samples for the mission.
