The U.S. Air Force found that the branch needs to accelerate its procurement process through its fiscal year 2018 annual acquisition report. Air Force Team Demos KC-135 Refuel Drone on F-35 Aircraft

A U.S. Air Force-led team concluded tests on a drone refueling system designed to work with F-35 aircraft systems. The F-35 Lightning II program team launched an F-35B aircraft to the Edwards Air Force Base along with the KC-135 Stratotanker system to highlight the tanker's capability to refuel at night operations, USAF said Friday.

AFRL, Universities Form Additive Printing Partnership for Aircraft, Spacecraft Structures

The U.S. Air Force Laboratory's composites branch partnered with the University of Miami, Louisiana Tech University, University of Arkansas and the University of Texas to highlight the application of 3D printed carbon fiber and epoxy components on air and spacecraft structures. AFRL also performed joint projects with international allies to craft lightweight core structures that can hold the payload through the use of composite printed materials, the Wright Patterson Air Force Base said on Friday.

Will Roper: Air Force Accelerating Contracting Process for Startups via Credit Card

Will Roper, assistant secretary of the U.S. Air Force for acquisition, technology and logistics, told Wired in an interview published on Sunday about the service’s upcoming pitch day in New York and how it plans to set up contracts for startups within a day through credit card-based awards. “We’re going to start doing awards at $158,000 per transaction,” said Roper, a 2019 Wash100 winner.

Air Force Accelerating F-35 Flight, Maintenance Planning Process With New App

A software development team within the U.S. Air Force has developed an application designed to accelerate the process of planning the weekly maintenance and flight schedule for F-35 fighter jets, Defense News reported Wednesday. The service’s Kessel Run team built the Kronos app as part of the Mad Hatter program, which launched in 2018 to address the logistics issues facing F-35 pilots and maintainers.
