Matt Cutts to Step Down as US Digital Service Administrator

Matt Cutts, administrator of the U.S. Digital Service (USDS), is leaving his post. Edward Hartwig, deputy administrator of USDS, will serve as head of the agency on an interim basis until a new administrator is named. In 2016, Cutts joined USDS from Google, where he served as head of the webspam team and as a software engineer.

Report: White House Eyes Eric Hysen for DHS CIO Role

The White House is expected to name Eric Hysen, former executive director of the Department of Homeland Security’s digital service, as chief information officer at DHS in the coming weeks. Hysen is expected to oversee data center consolidation, cloud and other information technology modernization efforts at DHS, which has an IT budget of $7.3 billion in fiscal year 2021.

Public Service Agency Unveils Recommendations on Gov’t IT Workforce Sustainment

The National Commission on Military, National and Public Service recommends that the federal government optimize its hiring processes and modernize civil service preferences to sustain the information technology workforce, Fedscoop reported Tuesday. The commission advised that the government needs to develop technical skill standards, create a civilian group comprised of former government IT employees and grow the Federal Cyber Reskilling Academy.

Report: Revamped VA Website Unifies Access to All Veteran Services

The Department of Veterans Affairs has consolidated its services into a single website in a move to comply with veterans' preferences, Nextgov reported Wednesday. “Vets.gov was intended to build a plain language, easier experience for veterans to understand the benefits they’ve earned and to be able to access and transact with the VA more effectively,” said Marcy Jacobs, executive director at the department's U.S. Digital Service team.

Matt Cutts Named Permanent US Digital Service Administrator, Eddie Hartwig Promoted to Deputy Administrator

Matt Cutts, acting director of the U.S. Digital Service, has assumed leadership of USDS on a permanent basis, Nextgov reported Monday. Eddie Hartwig, interim deputy chief of USDS, also transitioned to the role of permanent deputy director after the Office of Management and Budget announced that the positions will have a term limit of two years and will no longer be political appointments.
