USCIS Launching System Modernization, Supply Chain Security Initiatives

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services is working on modernizing its systems and fortifying software security at the supply chain level, Federal Times reported Friday. Adrian Monza, chief of the Department of Homeland Security component's cyber defense branch, told the publication that USCIS is launching “very significant” modernization efforts and that other agencies must be able to defend their networks against threats to financial databases.

Kenneth Cuccinelli Appointed Acting Citizenship & Immigration Services Director

Kenneth Cuccinelli, former attorney general of Virginia, has been named acting director of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services within the Department of Homeland Security. “I look forward to working with the men and women of USCIS to ensure our legal immigration system operates effectively and efficiently while deterring fraud and protecting the American people,” Cuccinelli said in a statement published Monday.

Trump Eyes Ken Cuccinelli for Citizenship & Immigration Services Director Post

President Trump intends to nominate Ken Cuccinelli, former attorney general of Virginia, to serve as the new director of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services within the Department of Homeland Security, The Washington Post reported Friday. Cuccinelli is expected to succeed L. Francis Cissna, who will step down as head of USCIS on June 1st. White House officials said Cuccinelli would be instrumental in the Trump administration’s plans to reform the U.S. immigration system.

Mark Koumans Assumes Deputy Director Role at USCIS

Mark Koumans, formerly a member of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, has joined the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services as deputy director.
