Matt Cutts to Step Down as US Digital Service Administrator

Matt Cutts, administrator of the U.S. Digital Service (USDS), is leaving his post. Edward Hartwig, deputy administrator of USDS, will serve as head of the agency on an interim basis until a new administrator is named. In 2016, Cutts joined USDS from Google, where he served as head of the webspam team and as a software engineer.

Sen. Kamala Harris Proposes Bill to Bolster U.S. Digital Services

Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., has introduced a bill that aims to support the government's investment in digital services, including corresponding personnel and technologies. The Digital Service Act will allot $50M in annual funds for the U.S. Digital Service and $15M in annual grants for equivalent efforts in state and local govenments, Harris' office said Thursday.

Report: Revamped VA Website Unifies Access to All Veteran Services

The Department of Veterans Affairs has consolidated its services into a single website in a move to comply with veterans' preferences, Nextgov reported Wednesday. “Vets.gov was intended to build a plain language, easier experience for veterans to understand the benefits they’ve earned and to be able to access and transact with the VA more effectively,” said Marcy Jacobs, executive director at the department's U.S. Digital Service team.

Matt Cutts Named Permanent US Digital Service Administrator, Eddie Hartwig Promoted to Deputy Administrator

Matt Cutts, acting director of the U.S. Digital Service, has assumed leadership of USDS on a permanent basis, Nextgov reported Monday. Eddie Hartwig, interim deputy chief of USDS, also transitioned to the role of permanent deputy director after the Office of Management and Budget announced that the positions will have a term limit of two years and will no longer be political appointments.
