Ted Ross, SpyCloud’s CEO, Co-Founder, to Serve as Panelist at Potomac Officers Club’s CMMC Forum 2020 on June 24th

Ted Ross, co-founder and CEO of SpyCloud, will serve as a panelist at Potomac Officers Club’s CMMC Forum 2020 on Wednesday, June 24th.

Ross brings more than 29 years of industry experience, focusing on network and security. He began his career with the U.S. Air Force, then was director of network engineering at West Corp. He has also worked with Walmart as a strategy advision and with Tipping point as an executive technology director.

He created a new team at HP as director of threat intelligence at HP Security Research, that was centralized around threat intelligence practice from the ground up. His team created reports on nation-state threat groups that were considered to be the most comprehensive reports on select adversarial nation’s cyber capabilities.

On the panel, Ross will use his knowledge and experience he gained from his career in the industry to discuss the regulation changes within CMMC, and how it will affect both government and industry employees.

As CMMC’s revision has moved away from self-certification, it has replaced current National Institute of Science and Technology’s (NIST) standards for cybersecurity with a five-level system of requirements for defense contractors.

Ty Schieber with the University of Virginia, Richard Naylor of the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency, Terry Roberts with WhiteHawk, and Dawn Greenman with John Hopkins University will serve alongside Ross as panelists at the forum.

The panelist will use their time to address the CMMC’s timeline, how the certification process could change and will provide a memorandum of understanding with a newly established CMMC accrediting body.

Join Potomac Officers Club for its CMMC Forum 2020 on June 24th to learn about the impact DoD’s CMMC will have on cybersecurity practices, supply chain security and other aspects of the federal market.

Accenture announced that the company has completed its acquisition of the Symantec Cyber Security Services business from Broadcom Inc, Accenture reported on Thursday.

With the acquisition, Accenture will enhance the company’s security’s position as one of the world’s leading providers of managed security services, further boosting its ability to help organizations anticipate, detect and respond to cyber threats.

The Symantec Cyber Security Services business will include over 300 employees around the world who serve organizations across a diverse range of industries, including financial services, utilities, health, government, communications, media, technology and retail.

In addition to the company’s acquisition of  Symantec Cyber Security Services, Accenture acquired Revolutionary Security, Context Information Security, Deja vu Security, iDefense, Maglan, Redcore, Arismore and FusionX to advance Accenture Security’s commitment to investing in and innovating cybersecurity solutions.

In April 2020, Accenture acquired Revolutionary Security, a privately held company specializing in enterprise cybersecurity for information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT) environments. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Revolutionary Security’s portfolio of cybersecurity services include assessment and testing, design and build of security programs and functions as well as security operations across its clients’ IT and OT systems.

The security company has leveraged proprietary technology and methods to help mature the security capabilities of its clients and manage risk. The company’s breach and attack simulation testing service, LiveFire, has utilized real-world cyber threats to identify gaps in security processes and monitoring, as well as staff operations and technologies.

The results help organizations prioritize actions to mitigate cyber risks within their enterprise. The acquisition will provide Accenture’s clients with greater end to end solutions, particularly regarding more complex IT and OT cybersecurity challenges.

In March 2020, Accenture acquired Context Information Security, a leading cyber defense consultancy, to accelerate growth of Accenture Security in the U.K. and across the globe. Accenture Acquires NIKE Group to Expand RegTech, Financial Services; Massimiliano Colangelo, Carlo Giaj Levra Quoted

Accenture has acquired NIKE Group, an Italian consulting firm that has provided regulatory technology (RegTech) services and solutions to financial services firms, the company reported on Thursday.

“NIKE Group’s extensive regulatory industry experience combined with Accenture’s scale and approach to innovation will enable us to create an enhanced data-driven market offering in advanced RegTech that will help clients accelerate their compliance transformations,” said Massimiliano Colangelo, who leads Accenture’s Financial Services Client Group in Italy.

Accenture announced its intent to acquire the business on April 14, 2020. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. NIKE Group will bring a data-driven approach and compliance platform to Accenture.

NIKE Group will help clients monitor new regulatory requirements and assist with compliance. This is particularly important as financial services’ compliance departments continue to navigate an ever-expanding and complex set of regulations.

The team at NIKE Group will join Accenture’s Italian Financial Services practice. The acquisition will enhance Accenture’s RegTech and compliance capabilities for clients in Italy and across Europe.

Carlo Giaj Levra, CEO of NIKE Group, said, “We are excited to join Accenture; its size and geographic reach will offer our employees new opportunities to expand their skills and will provide our customers with end-to-end solutions…. Together with Accenture, we will continue to develop solutions and technologies to improve governance and compliance processes for financial services, with the aim to expand our services to other industries.”

Accenture’s acquisition will add to the company’s overall growth strategy to expand critical skills and capabilities in strategic, high-growth areas of the market. Other acquisitions that have supported Accenture’s growth include the purchase of financial services data consultancy Mudano and financial services consulting firm Parker Fitzgerald.

Accenture Applied Intelligence announced the close acquisition of Mudano in Feb. 2020. The acquisition will enhance Accenture’s analytics, data and artificial intelligence (AI) transformation capabilities. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

“Mudano’s focus on helping clients build a ‘data culture’ aligns perfectly to Accenture’s Applied Intelligence strategy. By creating a strong data foundation, supported by the right skills, stakeholders and technologies, our clients can transform at speed and scale and fuel real change for their business.”said George Marcotte, managing director and head of  Accenture’s Applied Intelligence.

The company will also integrate Mudano’s data advisory expertise and technology solutions into the existing capabilities to help Accenture’s clients generate value and return on investment from large-scale transformation projects.

HUD, Salient CRGT Become Top Finalist for the ACT-IAC Igniting Innovation 2020; Atacan Donmez Quoted

Salient CRGT has announced that the company’s partnering client, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), has ranked as a top finalist for the ACT-IAC Igniting Innovation 2020 Conference and Awards for the Unisys Migration Project (UMP) – Technology Modernization Fund (TMF), Salient CRGT reported on Thursday.

"Salient CRGT is proud to lead the modernization effort at HUD by retiring their Unisys Mainframe & enabling critical business systems to operate in HUD's cloud environment," said Atacan Donmez, senior vice president, Civilian Services Group.

The Top 40 Finalists for the ACT-IAC Igniting Innovation 2020 Conference and Awards were selected from 140 nominations. The finalists' innovations support healthcare, defense, public safety, aviation, finance and grants management, acquisition, and workforce management and training programs.

HUD has made new efforts to successfully transform the Unisys applications to the cloud using automated code conversion, automated database migration, and automated regression and performance testing.

The department has reduced the project timeframe from five years to two, eliminated years-long requirements and code freezes required by manual modernization, and reduced overall project cost by over 50 percent.

GSA awarded a contract to Salient CRGT for the procurement of Unisys Migration Support that requires the migration of the Unisys Mainframe to the HUD cloud platform using modern cloud / JAVA code in July 2019.

These systems interface with the US Department of Treasury (DoT) and other federal systems, as well as HUD’s business partners that include financial institutions, grantees and public housing authorities. The Unisys Migration project strategy strives to accelerate the modernization of four of HUD’s critical business systems.

Salient CRGT’s work has ranged from COBOL to JAVA and from an on-premise mainframe environment to the cloud. The will will help to avoid HUD’s deepening the technical debt associated with the eventual decommissioning of the Unisys mainframe platform.

Air Force Research Lab, University of Cincinnati Collaborate on Mechanical Ventilation Tech Study

The Air Force Research Laboratory and the University of Cincinnati have partnered to test an experimental  closed-loop medical technology designed to help clinicians manage oxygen requirements of patients undergoing  mechanical ventilation.

AFRL's 711th Human Performance Wing supports the clinical trial as part of a cooperative agreement with UC and the partnership will use data from the study to help advance ventilators used to treat hospital COVID-19 patients, the laboratory said Wednesday.

Dario Rodriquez, a 711 HPW senior research health science officer and director of clinical research within UC’s Division of Trauma/Critical Care, said a closed-loop device has the potential to cut risk of exposure among medical personnel and reduce the time they spend adjusting breathing machine settings.

The system uses an algorithm to automatically oxygen levels based on the acceptable saturation range a health care provider has set for the patient.

As the host center, UC also teamed up with multiple hospitals to test the technology with patients who consented to participate in the trial, which has reached an enrollment rate of 88 percent to date. Researchers have collected data from 184 particpants, AFRL noted.

The 711 HPW-UC team initially tested an Impact Instrumentation-built ventilator in 2006.

Rodriguez said the Food and Drug Administration required the new trial after Zoll Medical acquired Impact and updated the device. Researchers aim to enroll enough participants to gather safety and efficacy data the company will need to submit to the FDA.

The agency will then review the findings to determine whether clinical evidence is sufficient to approve the technology for market availability.

CACI Reports Fiscal 2020 Third Quarter Results; John Mengucci Quoted

CACI International has announced its third fiscal quarter ended March 31, 2020, noting revenue of $1.5 billion, net income of $80.6 million, robust cash flow from operations and contract awards of $1.4 billion, the company reported on Thursday.

John Mengucci, CACI’s president and CEO, and 2020 Wash100 Award recipient, said, “As our nation navigates the COVID-19 pandemic, CACI is focused on taking all necessary actions to ensure the health and safety of our employees, to continue our unwavering commitment to our customers, to continue to operate the company in a fiscally responsible manner, and to support the communities in which we work and live.”

CACI has estimated the impact from COVID-19 in the third quarter was approximately $10 million of revenue, $6 million of operating income and $4.5 million of net income, driven by CACI employees and subcontractors unable to access facilities due to COVID-19 and who could not telework.

However, CACI’s business remains operationally and financially resilient. The company’s balance sheet has noted appropriate debt levels at 2.8 times its twelve-months EBITDA, and has generated strong cash flow.

Contract awards in Q3 FY20 totaled $1.4 billion. Approximately 50 percent of contract award value is for new business to CACI, excluding ceiling values of multi-award, indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contracts.

CACI noted a six-year, single-award task order, with a ceiling value of nearly $249 million, to provide mission expertise to U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) for operations, planning, and training support, as well as a five-year, single-award task order, awarded under the SeaPort-NxG contract vehicle, with a ceiling value of more than $83 million by the U.S. Navy.

In addition, the company secured a prime position on a multiple-award, indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract, with a ceiling value of $249 million, by the Naval Sea Systems Command, to provide mission expertise related to analyses and initiatives that improve effectiveness, efficiency, and affordability in ship design, manufacturing, and lifecycle support.

The company was also awarded a five-year, six-month, if all options are exercised, single award, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract, with a ceiling value of more than $199 million, to provide the U.S. Navy with mission expertise to support special operations communications systems, satellite communications and network support services.

CACI also commented on the appointment of Susan Gordon to the company’s Board of Directors. Gordon has served in senior leadership positions across numerous intelligence organizations. She has brought more than 30 years of leadership across a broad spectrum of complex issues, most notably in the development of innovative technology and transformative outcomes for the Intelligence Community.

The company has also named Daniel Walsh, who most recently served as White House Deputy Chief of Staff, a Corporate Strategic Advisor and Senior Vice President to support the development of CACI's national defense and homeland security business strategy. Walsh will help to enhance CACI's position in the national security market and help to expand key client relationships.

CACI has been recognized for its achievements, commenting on two notable awards. The company was honored by The Global M&A Network with two awards for the successful acquisition of LGS Innovations. Fortune magazine recognized CACI as one of the World's Most Admired Companies for 2020.

“Our third quarter financial results were strong with robust revenue growth, strong profitability, healthy cash flow, and high levels of contract awards. We are well-positioned in a large addressable market, serving stable government customers with enduring national security priorities under long-term contracts. We remain confident in delivering on our commitments of organic growth, margin expansion, and creating enduring shareholder value,” Mengucci continued.

About CACI

CACI’s 23,000 talented employees are vigilant in providing the unique expertise and distinctive technology that address our customers’ greatest enterprise and mission challenges. Our culture of good character, innovation, and excellence drives our success and earns us recognition as a Fortune World’s Most Admired Company. KBR Reports World's Most Energy Efficient Ammonia Plant at CFCL, India; Doug Kelly Quoted

KBR has announced that Chambal Fertilizers and Chemicals Limited (CFCL), Gadepan, India has successfully commissioned a new plant using KBR’s Purifier ammonia technology, the world’s most energy efficient plant per ton of ammonia produced, the company reported on Thursday.

“This is another proud milestone for KBR’s ammonia technology,” said Doug Kelly, KBR President, Technology Solutions. “We are committed to offering our partners energy-efficient and flexible solutions while always striving to improve upon industry benchmarks with many of them previously set by ourselves.”

CFCL currently has two existing ammonia plants that were revamped by KBR in 2009 to increase production and lower energy consumption. CFCL has constructed and commissioned its third ammonia plant with a production capacity of 2200 MTPD.

The third ammonia plant has achieved an energy consumption lower than the guaranteed value of 6.417 Gcal per metric ton during its test run period, which has marked the world’s most efficient ammonia plant.

KBR’s innovative ammonia technology is valued for its low energy usage, higher reliability and lower capital costs. Since the 1960s, KBR has licensed, engineered or constructed more than 243 ammonia plants worldwide making it the world’s leading ammonia technology licensor.

In addition to today’s announcement, in Aug. 2019, the company announced the successful startup of the JSC EuroChem Northwest Phosphorit 2,890 MTPD ammonia plant in Kingisepp, Russia to continue its ammonia energy initiative.

The facility’s 1 million tons per year ammonia production capacity has marked the largest in Europe and relies on KBR’s highly efficient Purifier ammonia technology. KBR was the technology licensor and provided basic engineering design for the $1 billion project.

“We are proud to have taken part in this ambitious project,” said John Derbyshire, KBR President, Technology Solutions. “Even at this large scale, the KBR Purifier ammonia process is flexible, reliable, and will provide tremendous cost benefits for many years to come.”

KBR has also provided various state-of-the art digital solutions suitable for a best-in-class modern world-scale ammonia plant. These include KBR’s remote operations monitoring and expert advisory service Ammonia InSite, a virtual 3D graphics-embedded Operator Training Simulator including e-learning system as well as a Reliability Based Maintenance system.

KBR is a leader across the world in ammonia technology and has been involved in the licensing, design, engineering, and/or construction of more than 235 grassroots ammonia plants and over 150 revamp ammonia projects globally.

The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency has listed advanced analytics and modeling, data management, modern software engineering, artificial intelligence and future of work as its five technology focus areas this year.

“This document is focused on our needs, rather than specific technologies,” Mark Munsell, chief technology officer at NGA, said in a statement published Wednesday. “The changes we must make cannot only occur within the confines of NGA – they require the innovative spirit of industry to find new and unique solutions to some of our most difficult challenges.”

The 2020 Tech Focus Areas document seeks to help NGA and other government agencies facilitate partnerships with industry, academia and other community partners to counter the threats posed by near-peer adversaries.

“The tech focus areas aren't 'shelfware' – we are identifying opportunities to leverage non-traditional acquisition capabilities to address the needs outlined in this document,” said Christy Monaco, chief ventures officer at NGA.

NGA listed several tech needs under the advanced analytics and modeling category, including analytical modeling, knowledge modeling, insights as a service, supplier capability evaluation and contextual learning.

The agency cited multidomain data aggregation, location-based insights and automated object validation as some of the technology needs that show the rising demand for agile integration of data management systems.

Under modern software engineering, NGA mentioned DevSecOps automation, software supply chain transparency, identity and access management and development environment for 3D data as technology needs.

AI-related tech needs include quantum computing for geospatial optimization, object detection and classification and machine learning model fitness for use.

For the future of work category, NGA listed remote and real-time collaboration, multidomain and multipartner collection management, secure and flexible work tools and secure cross-domain access as specific tech requirements.

Rep. Adam Smith Wants Next Stimulus Package to Prioritize Public Health

Rep. Adam Smith (D-Wash.), chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, said he thinks Congress should prioritize public health in the next economic stimulus bill to respond to the coronavirus pandemic instead of including more funds for defense, Defense News reported Wednesday.

“The defense [budget] bill last year was $738 billion. I’m not saying that there aren’t needs within the Department of Defense, I’m saying they have a lot of money and ought to spend that money to meet those needs,” Smith told reporters Wednesday during a teleconference.

His remarks come as DoD prepares its budget request in the next stimulus package. In early April, Congress approved an emergency relief measure that earmarked approximately $10.5B in funds for the Pentagon’s defense health initiatives and Tricare response efforts.
