The National Institute of Standards and Technology and the Department of Homeland Security have partnered to facilitate a workshop on cybersecurity workforce development to address a requirement under Executive Order 13800.NIST said the workshop will help fulfill a request under the EO titled “Strengthening the Cybersecurity of Federal Networks and Critical Infrastructure” that calls for a interagency evaluation of ongoing efforts to train the future U.S. cyber talent.
The EO instructs the secretaries of the Commerce Department and DHS to consult with other agencies to examine cyber-related apprenticeship programs, education curricula and training programs.
The interagency team must also produce a report on findings of the study and recommend strategies to boost cybersecurity workforce in the public and private sectors.
NIST said the workshop will take place at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago on Aug. 2.
