The U.S. Marine Corps has introduced an eight-day course to train service members on how to operate Joint Light Tactical Vehicles manufactured by Oshkosh‘s defense business.
The JLTV Operator New Equipment Training program at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in California is designed to help students learn about various aspects of vehicle operation such as safety, system traits and maintenance, USMC said Monday.
Trainees will get hands-on experience on basic maneuvers as they drive through the installation’s training areas.
“The walk phase is what we call the ‘Camp Pendleton 5000,’ and then the run phase is where we take them out to the Interstate Highway 5,†said Mario Marin, lead instructor for the JLTV course.
Oshkosh Defense is building Humvee replacement vehicles for both the U.S. Army and USMC under a $6.75B contract awarded in August 2015. The Wisconsin-based tactical vehicle manufacturer received the green-light to begin full-rate production efforts in June of this year.
