U.S. Navy Rear Adm. Jeffrey Scheidt, deputy chief of computer network operations at the National Security Agency, has been appointed to serve as deputy principal cyber adviser to the defense secretary.
Scheidt is among the five appointees on the flag officer assignment list published Thursday on the Department of Defense’s website.
He will succeed Rear Adm. William Chase III, who will be assigned as deputy commander of the Joint Force Headquarters-DOD Information Network at the U.S. Cyber Command.
Scheidt previously led the Naval Information Warfighting Development Center in Virginia and Navy Information Operations Command operations in Bahrain and Maryland.
His fleet tours included time as a cryptologic officer aboard the Navy’s USS Constellation supercarrier and fleet cryptologic resource coordinator on the USS Coronado amphibious transport dock.
Scheidt also supported the Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom as deputy information warfare commander aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier.
He also held various ashore assignments within the Joint Chiefs of Staff’s cyber policy division, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations and the National Reconnaissance Office.
The University of Michigan graduate joined the Navy in December 1990 through the school’s Reserve Officer Training Corps program.
