John Hyten
John Hyten

Gen. John Hyten, vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said the Department of Defense needs to emphasize on speed in response to the global power competition, DoD News reported Friday. He said the U.S. isn't moving as fast as its competitors, and cited China's use of economy in support of the Asian country's military.

"Their economic strategy is tied very tightly to their military, because every technology that's in China is available for military use," Hyten, also a two-time Wash100 Award winner, said.

He also referenced North Korea's economic growth and development of nuclear and ballistic missiles. Hyten noted that the U.S. must learn to take risks, learn from mistakes and develop defense technologies with speed.

"We've got to embrace the elements of this country that are going fast, where we know how to do things," he said.

UiPath Announces Partner Enablement Strategy to Advance Training Platform; Cheryln Chin Quoted

UiPath has announced on Tuesday a new partner enablement strategy to extend the company’s advanced training platform for its partners.

“Our partner community has become a powerful force in driving the tremendous growth of RPA, and this program is designed to provide them with an unmatched combination of sales and field enablement to help them continue to serve customers and grow their business with us,” said Cheryln Chin, global vice president of systems integrators at UiPath.

The strategy is based on the launch of UiPath Academy for Partners, which allows partners to customize their approach to enablement, achieve profitability and establish differentiation in the market.

The new UiPath Academy for Partners was built based on partner feedback and gives individuals a curated learning experience tailored to their specific job role. The new approach further democratizes access to UiPath training and delivers the same curriculum to both UiPath partner teams and UiPath employees through a user-friendly site.

UiPath will offer three new benefits to partners, including improved partner learning experience, enhanced enablement opportunities and access to product announcements and launch training.

The new user experiences will allow partners to access a deep library of materials directly from the existing Business Partner Portal, including UiPath Explorer for process discovery and recording, UiPath Process Gold for process mining, UiPath Apps to engage multiple business users, and UiPath Insights for enhanced performance dashboards.

With enhanced enablement opportunities, partners will be provided with additional tools to help them engage more effectively with customers and close deals quickly. Additionally, with access to product announcements and launch training, partners will be able to enroll in the same product training modules that the UiPath sales, presales, and delivery teams enroll in.

“Together with UiPath, our partners are seizing the unique opportunity to deliver transformative solutions to customers worldwide, added Chin.

SAP Joins Global Plastic Action Partnership to Improve Oceanic Health by 2030; Christian Klein Quoted

SAP has joined the World Economic Forum’s Global Plastic Action Partnership community to reduce the amount of plastic in the ocean and promote a cleaner and healthier environment by 2030, the company announced on Tuesday.

“SAP is committed to a significantly cleaner ocean by 2030,” said Christian Klein,  SAP’s Co-CEO and member of the Executive Board. “We want to achieve this objective together with customers, NGOs, governments and partners and will provide them with the tools, insights and solutions to eliminate waste and maximize resource productivity”

SAP’s Plastic Cloud technology,  which has collected existing and live data from across the plastics supply chain to introduce new ideas for waste reduction,  will allow businesses to find alternatives to single-use plastics, scale design for circularity, invest in materials collection infrastructure and ensure a better consumer experience.

The company has updated the Plastics Cloud to help companies produce environmentally responsible products by providing global insights, giving a better understanding of material that are used and its impact. SAP will focus on local recycling infrastructures and policies.

The research will allow the company to determine a more accurate model of the environmental and business impact from the use of recycled or reusable materials and packaging. Additionally, SAP’s software will help companies adapt to changing regulations, including extended producer responsibility policies.

Plastics Cloud offers links to a secondary materials marketplace based on Ariba Network, which connects packaging and consumer products companies to new sources of recycled plastics and plastic alternatives. The new initiative will also help with the UK digital waste map and other environmental efforts.

“Many of our customers have also made commitments to a cleaner planet. We will support them in achieving their ambitious goals, and together we can accelerate the move to a restorative and regenerative economy,” concluded Klein.

Army Officials Observe Bell V-280 Tiltrotor Demo

Ryan McCarthy, secretary of the U.S. Army, joined senior officials of the military service during a recent demonstration of a tiltrotor aircraft Textron's Bell subsidiary developed for the branch's Future Vertical Lift program, the Army News Service reported Tuesday.

A Bell V-280 Valor demonstrator reached a flight speed of 200 knots and performed vertical takeoff-and-landing maneuvers as part of the Joint Multi-Role Technology Demonstration event.

JMR-TD, which the service designated as a "capability enabler," seeks to explore the potential of next-generation systems to help joint force commanders address multidomain requirements.

The Army is eyeing V-280 and SB-1 Defiant, a compound helicopter offering from the Boeing-Sikorsky team, as potential UH-60 Black Hawk replacements through the FVL program.

McCarthy said the companies are working to address "the issues of specific characteristics that we're looking for — whether it's power or speed."

Boeing and Sikorsky are scheduled to demonstrate SB-1 Defiant on Feb. 20 at the latter's facility in West Palm Beach, Fla.

The Department of Veterans Affairs is collaborating with the Department of Defense to advance the authoritative use of a digital version of the military discharge document – DD 214 – for getting veterans services, FedScoop reported Friday. Kshemendra Paul, chief data officer at VA, told the publication VA and DoD are in the early phases of creating a DD 214 action plan.

“We’re moving toward a future state where veterans don’t need to present the DD 214,” Kshemendra Paul, chief data officer at VA, told the publication. “And it takes time to work through all the policy linkages and then to organize all the different dimensions: the IT bits, the budgeting bits, the business process reengineering bits, the work with regulations that define each of the benefits that VA offers.”

The Pentagon issues the DD 214 form upon a soldier’s discharge or retirement from any service branch. The document, which contains the veteran’s previous assignments and awards, is required for retirees seeking to secure medical benefits, loans and other services from VA.
