Vish Sankaran

Vish Sankaran


Sankaran is the Director of Federal Health Architecture. This is an E-Gov Initiative that is managed by Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology within the Department of Health and Human Services.

Sankaran has received several awards, including the AFFIRM’s Leadership Award, and he was also named to Federal Computer Week’s Fed 100. One of his major successes was last year when several federal agencies and private sector organizations showed their ability to securely exchange information with Nationwide Health Information Network. This information exchange was able to take place due to the CONNECT gateway software solution built by Federal Health Architecture.

Before working at the Department of Health and Human Services, Sankaran worked as the director of IT and product operations at Carescience, Inc. This is a healthcare applications services provider; Sankaran has a successful track record in the healthcare IT industry. Sankaran received a degree in Engineering from Bharathiyar University in India.

Joshua B. Sawislak

Joshua B. Sawislak


Joshua B. Sawislak is a Senior Advisor to the Administrator of the GSA, and as of Feb. 28, 2008, has also served as the Acting Chief of the Office of Emergency Response and Recovery (OERR), which is responsible for leveraging all resources within GSA into one central office and providing support and assistance to first responders, emergency workers and recovery teams.

Sawislak’s core responsibilities as senior advisor are to provide advice and management support on a wide range of issues related to GSA goals of integrity efficiency, and accountability. He also facilitates and coordinates interagency working groups, industry information exchange, and other special projects.

Before working with the GSA, Sawislak held management positions on several of the country’s largest transportation projects .  He has also managed projects in management consulting, emergency planning, environmental management, transportation planning, and infrastructure development. A graduate of The George Washington University, Sawislak is a member of the Transportation Research Board, the American Planning Association and the American Institute of Certified Planners.

Michael Robertson

Michael Robertson


Michael Robertson is the Associate Administrator of Governmentwide Policy and Chief Acquisition Officer for the U.S. General Services Administration, titles he has held since Aug. 10 of 2009. He was also appointed as White House Liaison on March 4, and continues to serve in that role.

His associate administrator position has him directing the Office of Governmentwide Policy, which develops and evaluates policies for management of the federal government’s internal operations. As chief acquisition officer, he develops and reviews acquisition policies, procedures, and related training for GSA and federal acquisition professionals. He also serves as the functional manager of GSA’s acquisition workforce.

Prior to his work at GSA, Robertson was the deputy working group lead for the Energy and Environment Agency Review Team on the Obama-Biden Transition Project. His work with Obama stretches farther back, though. He was the Director of Congressional Affairs on the Obama for America presidential campaign, where he was the primary point person for securing endorsements and superdelegate support from House and Senate members. And when Obama was still the senator of Illinois, Robertson was Legislative Coordinator and Deputy to the Chief Counsel. In this position, he managed the appropriations process, handled judicial nominations, and conducted political outreach to promote Obama’s legislative priorities. And in 2004, he worked in Chicago on Obama’s Senate campaign.

Robertson is a California native and graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with a Bachelor of Arts. He earned his Juris Doctor from Golden Gate University School of Law, and is currently enrolled in the Georgetown University Law Center’s Masters of Law program.

Vivek Kundra

Vivek Kundra is the federal chief information officer at the White House. President Barack Obama appointed Kundra in March 2009. As federal CIO, Kundra is responsible for directing policy and planning for IT investments at the federal level and providing oversight for IT spending throughout the federal government.

Before beginning his role as federal CIO, Kundra served at chief technology officer for the District of Columbia in Mayor Fenty’s cabinet. As CTO, Kundra was responsible for technology strategy and operations for more than 80 agencies.

In 2008, Kundra was named IT Executive of the Year and has been named in the top 25 CTO’s in the nation. Kundra has also served as assistant secretary for commerce and technology for the Commonwealth of Virginia. He is a strong proponent of cloud computing and has helped to move a number of federal agencies toward the cloud-computing model.

Kundra attended the Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership at the University of Virginia and has a master’s degree in IT from the University of Maryland.

Casey Coleman

Casey Coleman


Casey Coleman is the chief information officer for U.S. General Services Administration, a position she’s held since Sept. 2, 2007. In her role, Coleman is faced with the task of  aligning technology with the administration’s strategic business objectives and efficiently and effectively managing its information technology solutions. She manages the $500 million GSA IT program.

Prior to her current position, Coleman served as the CIO for the U.S. General Services Administration’s Federal Acquisition Service (FAS) for almost a year, and before that, she served two years as the GSA Federal Technology Service CIO.  She  was also the head of the GSA Office of Citizen Services from June 2002 through July 2004, where she developed and successfully launched the USA Services government-wide citizen customer service program.

Coleman got her start at Lockheed Martin, where  she spent several years in software and system engineering roles, developing onboard command and control systems for military systems employed during the Gulf War.  She also served for a year as a Congressional Legislative Fellow in 1994.

Hailing from Texas, Coleman graduated with honors from Texas A&M University with a bachelor’s degree in computer science, and then earned a master’s degree in business administration and finance from the University of Texas at Arlington.

W. Scott Gould

W. Scott Gould


W. Scott Gould is the Deputy Secretary of the Department of Veteran Affairs. President Obama nominated him, and the Senate confirmed it this past April. Gould serves as the Chief Operating Officer for the Department of Veterans Affairs in this role.

Before beginning his role as Deputy Secretary, Gould served as the Vice President for public sector strategy at IBM Global Business Services. Before IBM, Gould was the Chief Executive Officer of The O’Gara Company, which is a strategic advisory an investment services company. Additionally, Gould was the Chief Operating Officer at Exolve, which is a technology services firm.

Gould is the former Chief Financial Officer and Assistant Secretary for Administration at the Department of Commerce. He also served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Finance and Management at the Treasury Department.

Gould is U.S Navy Veteran. Gould has also received several awards including the Navy Meritorious Service Metal, the U.S Department of Commerce Medal, and the U.S Department of Treasury Medal. Gould is a graduate of Cornell University. He also attended University of Rochester, where he earned a Masters of Business Administration and Doctor of Education.

Roger Baker

Roger Baker is the Assistant Secretary for Information and Technology for the Department of Veterans Affairs. President Obama nominated him for this position and it was confirmed by the Senate this past May. Baker serves as Chief Information Officer for the Department as Assistant Secretary.

Prior to this role, Baker served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Dataline LLC. Before working at Dataline, Baker served as CIO at General Dynamics Information Technology. Additionally, Baker was the general manager and Executive Vice President for the Telecommunications and Information Assurance business unit for CACI International. Baker was also the CIO at the Department of Commerce for four years.

Before his work in the Federal Service, Baker worked as the Chief Operating Officer of BlueGill Technology, as Vice President of Engineering and Operations at VISA International, as well as Vice President of Consulting Services for Verdix Corporation.

Baker is a graduate of University of Michigan. At University of Michigan, he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science, as well as a Masters in Business Administration.

Melissa Hathaway

Melissa Hathaway


Melissa Hathaway was named the Acting Senior Director for Cyberspace for the National Security and Homeland Security Councils in February 2009. She was placed as head of a 60-day interagency review of the plan for cyber security throughout the government. Just recently Hathaway has returned to the private sector.

Hathaway served as the Senior Advisor to the Director of National Intelligence and Cyber Coordination Executive. She also chaired the National Cyber Study Group and while she was there she contributed to the development of the Comprehensive National Cybersecurity Initiative. Additionally, in 2008, Ms. Hathaway was appointed the Director of Joint Interagency Cyber Task Force.

Prior to her work there, Hathaway specialized in cybersecurity strategies with the consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton. She was previously employed by another consulting firm, Evidence Based Research, where she worked on developing models for detection of cocaine movement in the U.S.

Hathaway graduated from American University in Washington D.C. with a Business Administration Degree. She continued her education at the US Armed Forces Staff College and received a special certificate in Information Operations.

Robert Lentz

Robert Lentz is the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Information and Identity Assurance in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense, Networks and Information Integration/Chief Information Officer. Lentz is the Chief Information Assurance Officer for the Department of Defense. Additionally, Lentz is the Chairman of the National Space INFOSEC Steering Council, Manager of the DOD IA Steering Council, a member of the Presidential Sub-Committee on National Security Systems, and the IA Domain Owner of the Global Information Grid Enterprise Information Management Mission Area.

Previously, Lentz has served as Chief of the Space and Networks IA Officer, Chief Financial Officer of the NSA IA Directorate, Executive Assistant to the NSA SIGINT Collections and Operations Group and Field Chief of the Finksburg National Public Key Infrastructure/Key Management Infrastructure Operations Center. He has over 26 years with the NSA and has worked in areas of financial management as well as technical program management.

Lentz graduated Saint Mary’s College of Maryland and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree with a double major in History and Political Science. He then continued his education at the National War College and received as Masters Degree in National Security Strategy.  Lentz is also a graduate of the Naval Postgraduate School.In his time at NSA, Lentz has earned the NSA Resource Manager of the Year Award, the 2006 “Top 20″ Excellence.gov Award, the Defense Meritorious Service Award, the 2003 Presidential Rank Award, the 2004 “Federal 100″ award, and the Secretary of Defense Distinguished Civilian Service Award.

Robert Carey

Robert Carey is the sixth chief information officer for the Department of the Navy, as well as the information management/IT workforce community manager and the critical infrastructure assurance officer. He is also an active member of the United States Navy Reserve and  currently holds the rank of commander in the Civil Engineer Corps. Carey was recalled for active duty for Operation Desert Shield/Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Carey started his federal service with the United States Army at Aberdeen Proving Ground in 1982. He began his career in the Department of the Navy in 1985 with the Naval Sea Systems Command. After that, Carey joined the Department of Navy Chief Information Officer staff in 2000 and served as the eBusiness Team Leader until 2003. During this same period, Carey also served as director of the DON Smart Card Office through 2001. In 2003, Carey entered the Senior Executive Service as the Department of Navy deputy chief information officer.

Carey is a graduate of University of South Carolina, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering. He later earned a master’s degree in engineering management from The George Washington University. Carey has received numerous performance awards such as the Department of Navy  Meritorious Civilian Service Award, Superior Civilian Service Award, Distinguished Service Award. He is also a member of the Acquisition Professional Community.
