Paul Lawrence Named VA Undersecretary for Benefits

Paul Lawrence, former public sector vice president of Kaiser Associates, has been appointed to serve as the Department of Veterans Affairs‘ undersecretary for benefits, effective today.

He holds decades of accounting experience, having held leadership roles at several companies, including Ernst & Young, Accenture, MITREPwC and IBM, VA said Monday.

Lawrence also formerly served with the U.S. Army as a captain and is a graduate of the Army Airborne School.

“VA now has two of three undersecretaries in place, with both assuming office more than a year before their counterparts in the previous administration,” said Robert Wilkie, the department’s acting secretary.

President Donald Trump nominated Lawrence for the position in February.

The Government Accountability Office has found that the U.S. Air Force intends to start fielding in fiscal 2020 new Combat Rescue Helicopters to replace aging HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopters that have recorded the most flight time when it comes to staff recovery missions. GAO said in a report published Thursday the service will initially deploy the new helicopters to the active component six years ahead of the reserve component and to the Air National Guard by 2027.
