CenturyLink has appointed Hal Jones to its board of directors, effective Jan. 1, 2020, during the company's 2020 Annual Shareholder Meeting on Monday. Jones was recommended to the Board by Southeastern Asset Management and also serves as a director of Playa Hotels and Resorts.

Prior to Jones’ appointment with CenturyLink, he served as chief financial officer (CFO) of Graham Holdings Company from 2013 until his retirement in 2017. He also worked for The Washington Post Company, predecessor to Graham Holdings from 1989 to 2013.
Additionally, he served as the president and chief executive officer of Kaplan Professional, a subsidiary of The Washington Post from Jan. 2008 to Dec. 2009. Prior to joining The Washington Post Company, Jones worked for Price Waterhouse from 1977 to 1988.

With his election, the board is now comprised of 14 members following the 2020 Annual Shareholder Meeting. The board intends to place 11 directors, 10 of whom will be independent, and several have been on the board since 2015.
