The Department of Homeland Security wants public input on its proposal to implement an automated system for voluntary exchange of data between critical infrastructure operators and government agencies.DHS said in a Federal Register notice published Thursday it aims to transition the current Protected Critical Infrastructure Information Program from paper-based documentation to an electronic format.
DHS created the program to comply with the Critical Infrastructure Information Act of 2002 and to encourage companies and agencies to collaborate to secure critical U.S. systems through data sharing.
The department seeks to examine the possibility of adding a portion marking process in the program, sharing PCII with international government partners and streamlining the administration of the program at the state, local, tribal, and territorial levels.
It also seeks ideas on how DHS can align the initiative with similar data protection and sharing efforts.
The comment period on the department’s proposed PCII Program modifications will be open until July 20.
