Maria Contreras-Sweet, administrator of the Small Business Administration, has appointed StreetShares CEO Mark Rockefeller and Michael Phipps, managing director at The Millennium Group International, as members of the Interagency Task Force on Veterans Small Business Development.SBA said Thursday Rockefeller and Phipps will serve on the advisory board for two years and attend quarterly meetings of task force members in Washington, D.C.
Rockefeller represents StreetShares’ foundation that works to support veteran business ownership in the U.S.
He is a U.S. Air Force veteran who writes for Fortune Magazine on veteran entrepreneurship.
Phipps, a former airborne ranger at the U.S. Army, represents the American Legion and serves as a member of SBA’s Advisory Committee on Veterans Business Affairs.
The task force works to coordinate federal initiatives related to veteran small business development such as efforts to increase access to capital; boost business development opportunities; and achieve federal contracting goals for veteran-owned small businesses.
The board is comprised of representatives from SBA’s Office of Veterans Business Development, the departments of Defense, Labor, Treasury, Veterans Affairs, the General Services Administration and the Office of Management and Budget as well as four representatives from veterans service and military organizations.
