President Donald Trump has signed an executive order that would require federal agencies to merge functions and cancel unnecessary agencies, components and programs as part of a governmentwide reorganization, Federal News Radio reported Monday.Jason Miller writes the EO would ask agencies to draft and submit a reorganization plan to the Office of Management and Budget within 180 days.
OMB will send the final reorganization plan to Trump once it evaluates public comments to the plan, which will be posted in the Federal Register.
Sean Spicer, White House press secretary, said the administration wants agencies to determine cost inefficiencies and identify strategies to introduce changes to government services.
Trump said he will send the final reorganization plan to Congress, Miller reported.
The executive order also details five factors for agencies to consider in the development of their reorganization plans and those include the requirement for agencies to assess whether a component, function and or initiative could be handed over to state and local governments, according to the report.
