Majority of the requested funds would be taken from unobligated FY 2017 U.S. Army and Army Reserve operations and maintenance accounts, according to a reprogramming proposal signed by DoD Comptroller David Norquist and obtained by Defense News.

The report said DoD wants to use $136 million to increase the number of ground-based interceptors from 44 to 64 as well as build 20 new silos in a new Fort Greely, Alaska-based Missile Field 4.

The department also seeks additional funds to accelerate updates on four Aegis ballistic missile defense ships to enable the deployment of the Standard Missile-3 Block IIA missiles.

Reprogrammed funds would also support the production of various threat-discrimination technologies and radars.
