Army Uses AI in Stryker Vehicle ‘Proof-of-Principle’ Exercise to Advance Conditioned-based Maintenance

Army Uses AI in Stryker Vehicle ‘Proof-of-Principle’ Exercise to Advance Conditioned-based MaintenanceThe U.S. Army used artificial intelligence, cloud platforms and wireless devices to conduct a “proof-of-principle” exercise that aims to help speed up conditioned-based maintenance activities for Stryker armored vehicles, Scout Warrior reported Wednesday.

CBM seeks to help the Army implement a “repair-when-needed” strategy to vehicle maintenance through the use of AI-based analytics tools.

“We did a proof of principle at using historical maintenance records looking at data to assigned sets of equipment,” said Col. John Kuenzli, Army Logistics Support Activity commander.

“We can use AI to see what vehicles look like now and in the future based on miles and sensor reading,” he added.

The exercise is part of a $135 million recompete contract awarded to IBM in September to continue to deliver cloud and software development support to the military branch’s LOGSA as well as provide access to its Watson AI platform.

The service branch also works with IBM and General Dynamics’ land systems business to develop a capability designed to facilitate data collection and analysis in an effort to predict mechanical failures and access service life information, the report added.
