DHS Science Directorate Considers Collaboration With Cybersecurity Agency to Overcome Budget Cuts

The Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate is planning to collaborate with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency in light of looming cuts to the directorate’s $840M budget proposal for 2020, FCW reported Tuesday.

Officials noted that the potential 30 percent budget decrease may result in greater collaboration CISA and S&T initiatives. The two departments have already begun combining their efforts in select areas. 

William Bryan, a senior official now serving as undersecretary for science and technology, said his office is planning to merge an S&T technology exposition with another CISA event.

“In the last 18 months under Bill Bryan’s leadership, we have been increasing coordination and integration of S&T and CISA,” said Chris Krebs, director of CISA.

The DHS budget request noted that S&T implemented a new organizational structure in 2018 aimed at accelerating the transition of technologies to operational capabilities.
