The Defense Department looks to address challenges on network segmentation and update previous enforcement strategies that use access control lists on enclave firewalls of routers, a blog entry posted on the Cisco website said Wednesday.Michael Overstreet, DoD security systems engineering manager, said that the agency has released guidelines on how to process and handle digital data as well as other requirements on data classification and compartmentalization.
Overstreet noted that a product line from Cisco could work to assist DoD efforts through its Identity Services Engine, Cisco TrustSec and StealthWatch offers that work to help clients build network segmentation using policy-driven segmentation based on identity.
He added that the products were designed to give users network access, provide network enforcement and aim to accelerate security operations.
