President Donald Trump has nominated Maj. Gen. Carl Mundy III, commander of the U.S. Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command, to lead the Marine Corps Forces Central Command.
The Defense Department said Friday Trump also endorsed Mundy to the rank of lieutenant general.
Mundy was appointed commander of MARSOC in 2016, replacing Maj. Gen. Joseph Osterman, who took over the role of U.S. Special Operations Command deputy commander.
The MARCENT commander nominee previously served as the commanding general of 5th Marine Expeditionary Brigade and the commander of Task Force 51, which is based in Bahrain.
He also led a Marine Expeditionary Unit in Iraq during the eight-year Iraqi War.

Retired Vice Adm. Scott Pappano has been confirmed as principal deputy administrator for the National Nuclear Security Administration.
