The Senate has confirmed Jeff Pon, former chief human resources and strategy officer at the Society for Human Resource Management, as the Office of Personnel Management‘s next director, Federal News Radio reported Thursday.
Pon was nominated to the position in September 2017 and will be the first permanent OPM head in two years.
He previously worked as a principal at consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton and as a chief operating officer at Futures Inc., a technology company focused on connecting military veterans with civilian job opportunities.
Pon’s public sector career includes time as deputy director of OPM’s eGovernment initiative and chief human capital officer at the Energy Department.
The Senate also approved Michael Rigas, former chief of staff at Massachusetts’ Department of Veterans’ Services, to serve as OPM’s deputy director, a position that has been vacant for more than five years.
Rigas previously served as deputy director of coalition relations at Washington, D.C.-based think tank The Heritage Foundation; a political director at the Massachusetts Republican Party; and associate administrator at the General Services Administration.
