John Gibson, chief management officer at the Defense Department, has said DoD aims to build up military lethality and help service personnel meet mission requirements through the Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure Cloud procurement program, DoD News reported Wednesday.
“JEDI Cloud is just one contract and part of a much larger strategy for overall [information technology] efforts,†Gibson said March 7 during an industry day in Arlington, Virginia.
“Leveraging the commercial cloud is one IT area that we believe will achieve operational, financial and security benefits of which the JEDI Cloud contract is a great example,†he added.
Ellen Lord, defense undersecretary for acquisition and sustainment and a 2018 Wash100 recipient, said DoD should leverage commercial cloud platforms to support warfighters and maintain its technological edge.
Other Pentagon officials who spoke at the event include Chris Lynch, director of the Defense Digital Service; Air Force Brig. Gen. David Krumm, deputy director for requirements of the Joint Staff; and Essye Miller, acting chief information officer at DoD.
The industry day event coincided with the department’s release of a draft request for proposals for the JEDI Cloud acquisition contract.
