The U.S. Navy is set to christen the future USS Daniel Inouye built by General Dynamics‘ Bath Iron Works subsidiary on Saturday at the company’s Bath, Maine facility. Irene Hirano Inouye, wife of late Sen. Daniel Inouye, will perform the christening as the ship’s sponsor, the Navy said Wednesday.
Designated as DDG 118, the Arleigh Burke-class USS Daniel Inouye measures 59 feet in width and 509.5 feet in length and is designed with optimized electronic warfare and power projection capabilities.
“The future USS Daniel Inouye will serve for decades as a reminder of Senator Inouye’s service to our nation and his unwavering support of a strong Navy and Marine Corps team,” said Richard Spencer, secretary at the Navy and 2019 Wash100 Award recipient.Â
