The Department of Homeland Security’s science and technology directorate has unveiled a technology designed to forecast flooding, storm surges and wave interactions.
Developed by the Coastal Resilience Center, the Advance Circulation Prediction System is comprised of a risk assessment portal, a surge guidance tool and a storm surge and coastal flood model, DHS said Tuesday.
DHS noted that federal agencies, state emergency management offices, local communities and the Army Corps of Engineers have used the system’s data to implement evacuations, search and rescue efforts and damage assessments during previous hurricanes.
“When severe storms approach, the Coastal Resilience Center team works non-stop getting ADCIRC Prediction System information to those who need it to make crucial decisions,†said Eleanore Haijian, program manager at DHS S&T.
