The Creating Advanced Streamlined Electronic Services for Constituents Act mandates the Office of Management and Budget to create a uniform casework privacy release form and implement authentication procedures for government use, the office of Sen. Tom Carper, D-Del., said Friday.

“When the American taxpayers we represent need assistance with Social Security, Medicare, Veterans Affairs or any other federal agency, they should be able to get the help and information they need quickly and in a straightforward manner,” Carper said.

He and his fellow Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, sponsored the legislation to update a provision under the Privacy Act of 1974. The new law retains the paper-based option for privacy release form submission.
