A new Deltek report predicts that the Defense Department‘s efforts to implement the Joint Information Environment will open opportunities for industry providers of on-premise data center services and software-as-a-service platforms.The company’s “Defense IT: Priorities and Strategies, 2017 and Beyond” report found that DoD aims to integrate big data analytics into JIE to help strengthen cybersecurity of information technology infrastructure and accelerate the adoption of emerging technologies at the department, Deltek said Tuesday.
DoD looks to integrate most networks into JIE by fiscal year 2018 and the U.S. Army conducts the “most aggressive” efforts to achieve the goal, followed by the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps, Deltek added.
The company also projects that DoD will increase cloud spending and utilization of contractor-owned and operated commercial cloud systems by the end of FY 2017 and that the 2017 National Defense Authorization Act will bring changes to DoD’s technology acquisition and administrative structure.
Defense customers are projected to continue use of big data platforms for cybersecurity, business systems and health information technology but “fragmentary” data management practices and the lack of chief data officers impede enterprise-level adoption, Deltek noted.
DoD should apply multi-factor authentication approaches to secure mobile devices before expanding mobile access across the department, according to the company.
