The Federal Communications Commission has given 52 states and territories until Dec. 28 to decide whether to accept or opt out of the First Responder Network Authority’s plan to build a national public safety network in partnership with AT&T.FCC said Monday the 90-day opt-out decision period commended Friday after FirstNet informed the commission that all states and territories have been notified about the deadline.
Governors who choose to deploy their own state radio access networks must file opt-out notifications with FCC, FirstNet and the National Telecommunications and Information Administration no later than Dec. 28.
FCC established a set of standards the agency will use to evaluate broadband networks of opt-out states.
