What Are the CAIO’s Key Responsibilities?

Green succeeds Brig. Gen. Reid Novotny, the first person to serve as Cyber Command’s CAIO since the position was created in 2025 as part of Pentagon efforts to adopt AI. The role tasks its holder with weaving AI into cyber operations, backing faster and better-informed decisions and shoring up national security. Priorities also include responsible innovation and quick fielding of new capabilities, along with building ties with the Department of War, private industry and academic institutions.

Who Is Ronzelle Green?

Green most recently served as director of research and development at NGA, where he led the R&D enterprise in developing geospatial intelligence capabilities for operational use.

Before joining NGA, Green served as chief information officer at the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency, where he led digital efforts as the agency grew from 900 to 12,000 employees. He previously was director of Commonwealth Integration in the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence and Security.

Green also served as director of the International Solutions Office, where he led IT efforts supporting collaborative geospatial intelligence relationships with international partners. He also serves as a senior U.S. Coast Guard Reserve officer.

Green was a keynote speaker at the 2026 Defense R&D Summit, a GovCon event hosted by the Potomac Officers Club in January.
