Two Senate committees have approved the nomination of Rep. Mick Mulvaney (R-South Carolina) to lead the Office of Budget and Management, Politico reported Thursday.
Jennifer Scholtes writes the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee and the Senate Budget Committee held party line votes that advance Mulvaney’s nomination on to the full chamber.
Mulvaney said during Senate committee hearings that he would support additional military spending as well as cost-saving reforms to social security and Medicare, The Hill newspaper reported.
Republicans expect Mulvaney to balance President Donald Trump’s plans to cut taxes, boost infrastructure spending and build up the military without entitlement reform if the Senate confirms him, Sylvan Lane wrote.
