US Restarts Military Runway Construction in Henoko

US Restarts Military Runway Construction in HenokoThe U.S. has resumed construction work on a new military runway in Henoko, Japan after a 10-month pause due to Gov. Takeshi Onaga’s move to revoke the project’s permit, Stars and Stripes reported Tuesday.

Matthew Burke and Chiyomi Sumida write workers have prepared to reset floats around the construction project in Oura Bay after the Fukuoka High Court dismissed the permit cancellation in September.

The Japanese government halted the construction temporarily in March after Onaga retracted the permit in October 2015, Stars and Stripes reports.

Onaga obeyed the new court rulings and withdrew his order to cancel a landfill permit for the runway issued by his predecessor to relocate the Marine Corps Air Station Futenma to Camp Schwab, according to the report.
